Character History: http://megamitensei.wikia.com/wiki/Maya _Amano
Personality:
When Maya was a child her father, who was a journalist, died while away reporting on a war in another country. Before he left he told her that reporters are needed all over the world and that it was a job to take pride in, because of this she vowed to become a reporter who could show everyone their dreams. But because of the fact that her father had always been away from home and eventually even gotten killed because of his work, she also wanted to become a reporter to show him that it was possible to toggle both work and family successfully. So far, she has pretty much failed, though. She states that she is in love with her work and generally thinks she doesn't have time for things like looking for a boyfriend. In the end, she's very much following in her father's footsteps.
She also blames work for not having time to clean her room, which looks like a burglar just ransacked it, or have time to learn how to cook, which is why she eats out usually and she even bugs her friend to pick out clothes for her. In short, Maya is a total slob. This greatly annoys her roommate and friend since high school, Ulala, since Maya is still somehow more popular with guys than she is. Maybe it has something to do with the fact Maya always appears to be confident and usually has a smile on her face.
“Let's positive thinking” is Maya's motto and it says a lot about her. If someone else is feeling down or about to give up, you can be sure that she's there trying to encourage them and push them to keep going. Maya is an incredibly stubborn person and she always tries to have a positive outlook on any given situation. In the game, she is very much the “heart” of the party that brings everyone together and keeps their spirits up. While they usually leaves decisions to Tatsuya, Maya usually always have some input to make and being something of a “big sister” figure to the younger kids in the party, she's usually listened to.
That isn't to say that Maya is always optimism and bubbles of joy. While she definitely want to believe that everything will be all right, she is often also making herself seem more confident than she is to keep other peoples' spirits up, even if she's doubting herself. Most of the time she really is that optimistic though! It's just that even when the odds are all clearly against her, she refuses to acknowledge it and if someone catches her being pessimistic she will almost immediately switch around and try to joke about the situation.
A lot of it stems from the fact that Maya can't stand being a burden to others or holding them back. Part of it definitely is because of the events from ten years ago and the fact that Maya holds herself responsible for the pain the younger kids had to go through in believing she was dead and what later happened to Jun. This goes so far that when Maya is dying at the end of the game, despite earlier stating that the worst thing is to be forgotten, she pleads with the kids to forget all about her because it would be worse to hold them back with their memories of sadness of her than it would be if they all forgot about her. In a way it seems like she isn't fully aware of just how important she is to the other characters and how impossible such a request would seem to be.
None of the above issues mean that Maya is secretly hiding behind a smile though! Most of the time she is genuinely happy and optimistic and that is definitely not an act. It's just that she pushes herself to continue to be that way even when she would do better with admitting that things are actually going to hell at the moment.
Extra:
Character Abilities: Maya can summon Personas, manifestations of the psyche, that can do different generic RPG spells. Unlike in later Persona games, she isn't restricted to using just one, even if she is more compatible with some of them more than others. Other than that, she knows how to handle a gun.
Possessions: Ms. Bunny (her good luck charm), possibly also a pair of pink handguns and a flashlight.
Anything else: Not really.

Oh, it's on now? Hey, I guess these things aren't that much more complicated than a normal recorder! Okay, let's start!
Ciao, everyone! This is your new friendly neighborhood reporter calling out to you all! That's right, I plan to make sure news will get out to everyone swiftly and surely, because keeping updated in today's society is important, especially if you are still young. Hmm, would a net blog maybe be more effective nowadays than an actual paper copy? Hmm, something to get input on, I guess.
Oh, and I'm sure you're wondering who this wholesome lady speaking is, aren't you? Sometimes I'm an intrepid reporter, sometimes just a shy little editor, but I'm always Amano Maya, ace journalist! And I am very much looking forward to hearing from you all, because more than anything I want to keep myself updated on what is happening. So if you know something interesting, please just give me a call, okay? &hearts
And another thing, and this is very important, does anyone know where I can buy some canned crab here? My fridge just wouldn't be the same without it...

She turned around and gave her room one last look. To anyone else it probably wasn't a very comforting sight, but the heaps of clothes and papers on the floor just made her feel like the room was properly lived in and cleaning it all up would just make it lose it's character. Of course, the dust bunnies were maybe growing a little too big. She reached out for Ms. Bunny and gave the charm a light squeeze, if Ulala doesn't help me clean soon, it looks like you'll be having some competition.
The kids were waiting for her outside and she knew she shouldn't make them wait for too long, lest they'd start to worry she had trapped under a pile of junk or something. But there was this nagging feeling that it would be a long time until she could come back here again, and she felt a little reluctant to leave it behind just like that, even if she knew that her roommate would keep it in good enough shape until she returned. If she... No, she couldn't think like that. Sure, it would be dangerous but there was no way they wouldn't be able to pull through. The heroes always wins and beats up the bad guys, and if this was a story, she was definitely the beautiful heroine that would save the day.
She giggled at the thought, bringing back memories of that summer ten years ago. Back then they had played heroes that would save the world while wearing masks and playing Masquerade. Now they had all grown up and this time it was for real. And this time she would be sure to keep her promise to not leave them. Not again. Not when she had finally found her way back to that place where she truly belonged.
With a smile she closed the door and set off to join the others outside. Yes, surely they would win this time.
